fantastic fest 2005

I’ve just spent the last four days at the first (of what will hopefully be many) FANTASTIC FEST. The fest was held at the Alamo Drafthouse on South Lamar and everybody involved did an outstanding job. It was a great experience and I’m actually kind of sad that it’s over.

I saw a ton of movies. I’ll try to give a rundown: Zathura, Feast, Miracle Mile, The Dark Hours, The Wild Blue Yonder, Night of the Living Dorks, Creep, Strings, Pulse, Sin City Uncut and Extended, 1990: Bronx Warriors, Bloodshots 48 Hour Horror Films Winners Screenings and Hostel. That’s quite a few movies and only two of them were letdowns (Pulse and WIld Blue Yonder).

As a genre filmmaker, this festival really helped me solidify the direction I am moving in. I have a much clearer focus on what I need to do next. Most importantly, I met some really cool people over the course of the festival. These weren’t just Austinites but people from all over the world, several of whom I have a feeling I will be maintaining some kind of relationship with in the years to come.
